Issues in professional education for the subspecialty, neonatal physical therapy, are addressed with a focus on both entry-level programs and advanced-level professional training. An overview is given of medical risks and potential adverse consequences of neonatal physical therapy if the service is delivered by professionals without advanced subspecialty training. Pediatric experience and criteria for precepted clinical training for practice in neonatal physical therapy are outlined, and an eased-entry approach to organizing advanced-level neonatal physical therapy training is introduced.
