Is the postoperative toddler who is crying loudly and thrashing about in more pain than the one who is silent and rigid? How do you evaluate the needs of a child unable to verbalize discomfort? The authors describe how the critical care nurse is in the best position to monitor the needs and initiate pain relief measures for the postoperative child.
