摘要:
The influence of the rapid increase in scientific knowledge and the changing patterns of science education on college physics teaching is discussed. Training criteria for college physics teachers are suggested, and statistics are quoted on the number of teachers who presently fail to meet the criteria. A survey is presented of the study opportunities available for college physics teachers. It is recommended that more summer study opportunities be provided; some problems involved in implementation are outlined. An analysis is made of the present demand for summer institute programs; suggestions are offered on how to stimulate more participation in study programs among college teachers without advanced degrees. The contributions of the Commission on College Physics in providing summer study opportunities are mentioned, and the role of the physics community in coordinating the entire effort is assessed.
