Buyers, informed of a pending price increase, have had to employ complex strategies and equations to determine whether or not to purchase a special order quantity before the price increase becomes effective. This article provides the buyer who is pressed for time with a relatively simple three‐step procedure for determining the most economical decision. The model is modified to make it more consistent with the business environment. Computer graphics are employed to show the relationships between variables in the equations.
