Immediate postoperative radiographs of this patient's hips revealed satisfactory fixation of the right hip and no change in the appearance of the left hip. His postoperative course was unremarkable, and he resumed usual activities in about 2 months. Approximately 4 months after operation the patient presented to the office complaining of a 2-week history of left groin pain. The parents, well advised and well aware of the possibility of bilateral involvement, tended again to minimize the symptoms, stating they were sure nothing was wrong, but thought they'd better come in just for reassurance.
