Recent developments in technique provide the possibility of permitting undergraduate physics students at all levels to construct experimental vacuum tubes at small cost and in relatively short times. The method makes use of solder glass, inexpensive mass-produced headers, and multiple gettering techniques. Detailed discussion is given of the procedures used.
