Patients undergoing angioplasty or stent implantation may soon benefit from treatments that have been shown to reduce the need for repeat revascularisation procedures by up to 70%, compared with placebo. This impressive achievement has been seen in a large, randomised, double-blind study of probucol, and a separate study looking at the use of radiation treatment during stent placement. The results from these studies were presented at the 69th Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association (AHA) [November 1996; New Orleans, US].
