Hepatitis B infection represents a significant occupational hazard to health care workers who have frequent contact with blood and body fluids from patients with hepatitis B. This article provides I.V. nurses with basic information on the disease, preventive techniques to limit the acquisition of the disease, and an overview of active and passive immunization, including the hepatitis B vaccine.
