Evidence is increasing for correlation of lupus activity with titers of antibody to DN A and with levels of the fourth component of complement. In addition, another immunologic responsivity in active s LE—to extractable nuclear antigens (E N A)—has been defined. E N A antibodies also appear to play a significant role with respect to another syndrome, steroid-responsive mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD).
