The visual screening of about 1100 psychotic patients provides an optometric insight into the nature and working of a psychiatric hospital. A history of the hospital, its patients and eye clinic is discussed. A breakdown of the visual acuity of these mentally disturbed patients is given and the problems of 2 consultant optometrists in performing their normal duties are mentioned.
