A short resume is given of the history of forest entomology in East Africa. During the period 1957–61 the Forest Insect Survey progressed at a reduced rate due firstly to the hiatus after J. C. M. Gardner's retirement, and secondly to its subsequent eclipse by specific investigations. It is now entering a phase of considerable expansion. Provision has been made for an increased flow of material. Improved facilities for this division's capacity as an inter-territorial centre for the circulation of information and insect material have been planned.
