The SATIS (Science and Technology in Society) project supplies teachers of GCSE ‘A’ and level science with excellent teaching support material. Initiated by the Association Science Education, SATIS materials are sponsored and aimed at putting science and technology into context. Many of these contexts are social, industrial, agricultural or in health and safety.The project has now been extended to produce material for Key Stages 2 and 3 (8–14). SATIS does not generate ‘off-the-peg’ or ‘instant hand out’ material; rather, it provides teachers sources, ideas and tried techniques to enliven their own teaching with real examples situations.SATIS materials are a shelf resource, photocopiable and flexible. Although they do not to deliver the National Curriculum for science and technology, will enrich work in both. SATIS units are lively and interactive; they stimulate group work and co-operation and are applicable across the curriculum. Many teachers ‘cut and paste’ SATIS materials to suit their pupils.The units in SATIS 8–14 are presented in parts. Each part is a single activity and can be tackled alone or used to supplement other activities. The units have both radio/audiotape and television/video tape components and a SATIS disc, to enrich and extend the printed materials
