Effect of the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone on Iodine Uptake by the Thyroid of X-Irradiated Animals

摘要:

The studies were performed on 60 rabbits non-irradiated and irradiated with 400 R or 800 R. All the rabbits were injected i.v. with125I and then i.m. with the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). In irradiated animals these injections were given 24 hours or 5 days after irradiation. Non-irradiated rabbits showed an increased accumulation of iodine in the thyroid, whilst in irradiated animals iodine uptake teas lower and depended on radiation dose and time after irradiation.
