摘要:

I have enjoyed reading the remarks by Macomber and Rosenthal concerning the mode of operation of the crossed-coil/nuclear magnetic resonance (N.M.R.) spectrometer. I find little to quarrel with in the paper and subsequent discussion. I believe that both Macomber and Rosenthal are right. There appears to be a good deal of misunderstanding concerning the role of quantum effects in N.M.R. The difficulty is that there are several more or less equivalent physical pictures of the N.M.R. process, most of which are only approximately correct, but all of which are adequate. But it is only human to view a familiar physical picture as the only correct one.
