Although recent reports have documented the durability of total knee arthroplasty, failure still occurs as a result of component loosening, instability, fracture, component breakage and wear, and infection. When failure occurs and revision is contemplated, it should be realized that revision is a technically demanding procedure that warrants special considerations. Revision total knee arthroplasty with cement fixation and press-fit intramedullary stems is our procedure of choice.
