To determine the ionogram, the most frequently needed value, ultrachemical methods have been used which avoid difficult venous puncture in the child. Blood samples can be repeatedly drawn by simple finger puncture even on premature babies.Statistical analysis of the results has demonstrated the validity of these methods and has shown the stability of osmotic and ionic requirements during growth.
