The treatment of pityriasis tichenoides includes a wide variety of different agents. Antibiotics, ultraviolet Light, methotrexate and corticosteroids have all been reported to be efficaceous in this condition but none has emerged as the treatment of choice. Scarcity of cases has restricted the opportunity for controlled clinical trials and most of the published therapeutic reports are case reports or open studies. A better understanding of the immunopathology of pityriasis lichenoides has failed to identify the immuno-logical trigger for this inflammatory skin disorder and, in the absence of insight into aetiopathogenesis, treatment remains empirical.
