Cytology of the tetraploid cytotype ofAllium chinenseG. Don is described. This species has 32 chromosomes in its somatic cells. The male meiosis is characterized by the formation of multivalents, bivalents and univalents resulting in aberrant segregation of chromosomes at anaphases. This and the heteromorphicity in the somatic chromosomes is a pointer towards its allotetraploid nature. Pollen stainability is extremely low and the pollen grains have varying number of chromosomes.
