SynopsisExamples are given of the correlation between the images of metallurgical preparations as observed in the light microscope, with and without phase contrast, and (via the intermediary of a plastic replica) in the electron microscope. These illustrate the difficulties of unambiguous interpretation and show the need for a more critical, preferably comparative, approach in metallurgical microscopy.
