There is virtually no clinical research being done in the home setting by community health nurses. This is due to several factors: (1) there is no established tradition of research in home health agencies that provide nursing services, (2) the extraordinary number of uncontrollable variables that may exist outside the institutional setting, (3] the nursing profession's lack of an established relationship with business enterprises (such as drug companies and medical/surgical supply houses who might be willing to fund and encourage research projects), and (4) a shortage of professional personnel interested in–and trained to do–research.
