The rugosochonetid genusSvalbardiais recorded for the first time from the Western Australian Permian. The new speciesSvalbardia thomasiis described from the Nalbia Greywacke and the Baker Formation of the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia. The relationship ofSvalbardiato allied genera of the Rugosochonetidae Muir-Wood is discussed. The disjunct distribution of the genus in the Permian is documented.
