ABSTRACTA description is given of a square stepped helical antenna radiating in the axial mode. Its impedance characteristics, radiation patterns, estimated directivity and axial ratio are presented. The square stepped helix is compared with a conventional helix and its advantages briefly referred to. In an attached Appendix, its radiation pattern is derived, assuming an unattenuated travelling wave along the antenna.
