Investigations of metabasites (i. e. metamorphic basic to intermediate rocks) from the Precambrian of Southeastern Sweden show that seven distinctly different periods of magmatic activity may be distinguished. Their relationship to sedimentation, intrusion of granites, metamorphism and tectonics is established. A scheme of the geological evolution can be pictured, leading to a better understanding of the geological processes in this area.
