Editor's Note As a professional journal, it our responsibility both to inform and stimulate. We were delighted, therefore, with the responses to the article by Brown et al. in the May/June 1997 issue. A continuing dialogue among practitioners is essential for thoughtful, timely, professional nursing practice. The comments of NAON members McCaffery (with Ferrell) and Dunwoody provide much food for thought as do the remarks of Erlen and the responses from the authors. We thank them all for their commitment to the patients we care for.
