AbstractAn alphabetical list of species ofAlbucasubgenusFalconera(19 species including 13 new ones) is presented with notes on their distribution. For the six old species the diagnostic characters are provided with occasionally additional comments. For the new species diagnoses and an explanation of the epitheton are given. All 19 species are illustrated by at least one figure.Like subgenusAlbucait has its main distribution in the Cape Province radiating to the east with one species into Natal and Transvaal and northwards into Namibia with four species, one of them only known from the type locality, and one occurring in Namibia and Angola. Thus the subgenusFalconerais strictly speaking not endemic to Southern Africa.Within subgenusFalconeratwo sections are distinguished, sect.Falconera(14 spp.) with six fertile anthers and sect.Trianthera(five spp.) with only three fertile anthers.Only two accepted species (A. fragransJACQ. andA. viscosaL.f.) were already described in the eighteenth century, in each of the following centuries two accepted species were added (A. shawiiBAKER andA. monophyllaBAKER in the nineteenth century, andA. bifoliataDYER andA. crudeniiARCHIBALD, both from the Eastern Cape, in this century until 1956).
