AbstractIn a recent issue of theSurvey Review(Vol. XIX No. 149, July 1968, pp.317–318) Mr. A. L. Allan described a“high subtense bar”whose rotation about a vertical axis is effected by“an assistant pulling on two strings”. Some years ago a remote controlled subtense bar was devised in the workshop of this Department and is briefly described and illustrated by photographs in this article.
