A small specimen of light-blue beryl, recently discovered in the Canaan area by Mr E. J. Sixtus and kindly presented by him to the New Zealand Geological Survey, is of interest not only as an addition to the few records of this mineral in New Zealand but also because of its unusual properties. Because of the small size of the specimen, the full nature and extent of zoning in the beryl are unknown, but the data obtained are of interest.
