AbstractFatty acids4–7can be chlorinated with high selectivity in the (ω — 2)‐ to ω‐position. For that purpose the acid is adsorbed on alumina and allowed to react with gaseous chlorine ort‐BuOCl at 20 and −35°C. The resulting chloroalkanoic acids10–13can be converted into macrocyclic lactones14–17by
