ABSTRACTFive different policy questions are raised for Australian welfare planners in ageing based on observations of an American policy analyst. The questions reflect recent trends and directions in public policy both in the United States and Australia. Through these questions and through discussion, the author identifies concepts that may lead to programs which are more effective and responsive to the diversity of elders in these two nations.
