AbstractThe Marfan syndrome became renowned following the death of volleyball great Flo Hyman in January of 1986. While to date no exact cause of the syndrome has been identified, it has been determined that Marian's is genetic in origin. The syndrome affects connective tissue, affects males and females equally and is not race specific. During the last decade progress has been made in research on Marian's syndrome enhancing life expectancy of the affected individual. In the meantime it is the responsibility of those familiar with the syndrome to educate those in positions of working with athletes to be able to recognize the classic symptoms associated with the disease.
