Ozonolysis of the N-phenylmaleimide-cyclopentadiene Diels-Alder adduct in methanol followed by reductive work-up with dimethyl sulfide affords 3-phenyl-endo,endo,cis,-6,8-bis(dimethoxymethyl)-3-azabicyclo[3.3.0] octan-2,4-dione (1), mp 105.5–107°.1
