SUMMARYThe continuous measurement of oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide elimination and heart rate were serendipitously recorded during the prodrome of a migraine headache. Mean oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide elimination decreased by 17% and 35%, respectively. Paradoxically, heart rate increased by 41% during the prodrome. It is not known whether these physiologic changes are primary or secondary to the prodrome of the migraine headache.
