摘要:

Forty years ago an experiment mounted on a small sounding rocket measured the X-ray flux emitted by the hot outer layers of our Sun. This event marked the birth of X-ray astronomy, and in the intervening years many bizarre and fascinating objects have been discovered. This article describes these discoveries and the increasingly complex instruments which have made them possible.
