During a 2-year period, 417 patients were subjected to ultrasonography, mostly for the diagnosis of early pregnancy, abnormalities of placentation, molar gestation, and twins. A few gynecologic patients were ultrasonically scanned to aid in the diagnosis of uterine leiomyoma and ovarian cysts. The most promising presentday uses of such sonograms are those of diagnosis during pregnancy, early or abnormal; localization of the placenta; and of following the growth pattern of the fetus.
