With appropriate detective work (sometimes requiring visits to the“scene of the crime”), many otherwise unexplainable pneumonitides can be traced to some aspect of the individual's personal environment. The author describes the modus operandi followed in several mysterious cases; sometimes the source of the culprit antigen can be removed even when the latter cannot be precisely identified.
