The literature data discussed here show that the loss is mainly important when PVCcontaincrs orinfusion sets are used. It is recommended to add the nitrates to the infusion fluid in glass containers, immediately before use. For the infusion set, high density polyethylene tubing is suitable; if PVC-tubing is used, pre-equilibration should be performed. If knowledge of the exact amount administered is important, infusion by means of a glass or propylene seringue, coupled to polyethylene tubing, is to be preferred.
