Clearly of special interest because of its role in immunocompetence, the cell membrane of the lymphocyte is examined in the light of evidence provided by a recently developed radioiodination technique. By its use the presence of IgM and“IgD”on the surface of B cells has been established and evidence gained that these molecules participate in the processes by which antigen transforms B cells into plasmocytes.
