By substituting (or deleting) amino acids at various positions in the original octapeptide, investigators have developed several analogues of angiotensin II that effectively inhibit the parent molecule's pressure-raising capacity. In addition to clarifying the molecular basis for the biologic actions of angiotensin II, these studies have also opened new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of certain hypertensive states.
