This contribution to The Prisoner's Forum is a translation of a Polish account of a prisoner's experiences on the day of his release. The writer is now a well‐known author, but before he succeeded in literature he had a long history as a persistent thief spending his time “in and out” of the prisons. If he had been a prisoner in England, anything he wrote in prison would have been destroyed under the Prison Commissioners' regulations.—Ed.Howard
