Understanding of primary hypothalamic or CNS involvement in endocrine disorders began with detailed study of cases in which a histologically normal pituitary gland could be demonstrated and has been enhanced as synthesis of some releasing factors made it possible to test the integrity of the complex neuroendocrine control system.
