Magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction in FeNd alloys

AbstractThe temperature dependence of magnetization, magnetic anisotropy, and magnetostriction is investigated for arc‐melted Fe100−xNdx(10.5 ≦x≦ 75) alloys in the temperature range between 77 and their Curie temperatures. The magnetization of Fe17Nd2and Fe23Nd6compounds are 137 and 100 e.m.u./g at 77 K, respectively. Inx= 10.5 to 43 alloys, the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy due to the texture of Fe17Nd2compound decreases with raising temperature. The magnetostriction of the alloys exhibits a broad maximum around 200 K. The forced linear magnetostriction of the alloys is large and exhibits a peak of about 75 × 10−10Oe−1at the Curie temperature of the Fe1
