摘要:
AbstractThe author has tested a method of deriving an azimuth from a series of pointings on the Sun for a place of unknown latitude. A series consisted of 6 to 8 observations in face left and face right and lasted from 1 to 1½hours. A theodolite reading single seconds and fitted with a Roelofs prism was used to measure zenith distances and differences in azimuth. From a total of 23 series at a station of latitude +3°07′(Kuala Lumpur) the standard error in azimuth of a single series was found to vary from about 5″to 12″(arc-seconds).
