摘要:

Spiiites. altered dolerites and camptonites occurring in unfossiliferous, ?Upper Jurassic greywacke at Cape Palliser, are described. The spiiites are “high potash” types and show well developed pillow structure. The altered dolerites are found as sills and dykes in a greywacke–argillite–chert sequence, intraformational volcanic breccias and random fold–axis directions indicating that submarine slumping has taken place. The camptonites contain brown hornblende, titan–augite, albite and andesine. The thicker camptonite dykes show mineralogical changes between centres and borders – the trend being towards greater albitisation and crystallisation of hornblende at the margins. Horizontal banding by albite and the mineralogical border changes are considered to be due to infilling of cooling cracks by late phase solutions. The camptonites at Cape Palliser are considered to be distinct from the Brocken Range intrusives, but co–magmatic with those of the Inland Kaikouras and Awatere Valley, Marlborough of Upper Jurassic – Turonian age. The spiiites, dolerites and camptonites at Cape Palliser show mineralogical and chemical affinities and are considered to have been derived from an olivine–basalt magma.
