A new dimension of expanded nursing roles is the Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP). The University of Virginia offers a program to prepare this practitioner.*It is one of the few ENP programs in the country associated with a university and is approved by the Joint Committee of Virginia State Boards of Nursing and Medicine. The program requires two semesters of fulltime study and awards both a certificate and academic credit. It combines didactic instruction with clinical correlates and preceptor guidance.
