Ten gravidas with antepartum deep-vein thrombophlebitis were observed and treated during a 3-year period. Seven of the 10 mothers suffered hemorrhagic complications while being given long-term treatment with heparin. A regimen of varying periods of heparin usage is proposed, depending on the patient's prior history. Such treatment is discontinued during labor and resumed post partum, together with CoumadinR.
