All students taking Applicable Mathematics as one of their subjects on the Combined Studies degree take a one week modelling exercise in their first year. The general organization of the modelling work is described together with one particular exercise. This particular exercise was based on the computing experience of one of the authors and involves both summarizing data and advising on decisions to be made on the basis of the data.
