摘要:
Fluidized‐bed combustion uses our coal reserves to produce steam or electric power in an environmentally acceptable manner, however, the calcium in the sorbent is only partially utilized. A method of increasing the calcium utilization has been discovered in which the spent sorbent is hydrated to reactivate it for additional use. Hydration produces calcium hydroxide which is subsequently dehydrated when the material reenters a combustor. The hydration‐dehydration cycle alters the pore structure allowing further sulfation. The effectiveness of the method was verified by tests made in the ANL 15 cm atmospheric fluidized‐bed combustor. A continuous‐bed cooling and hydrating system is proposed to reactivate the spent sorbent and recover both the sensible heat and the heat of hydration. The kinetics of the hydration reaction using steam have been investigated, and test results from a fluidized‐bed hydrator are presented.
