摘要:
AbstractShame is a an elusive but important emotion in everyday life. Chaplains need to understand the common origins of shame and the implications for clients' identity and daily functioning. Separating shame from guilt is a critical aspect of providing a deeper understanding of human distress. Shame is often hidden under the more commonly presented feelings of guilt. This article reviews important scholarly, literary, and clinical observations about the manifestations of shame. Four clinical cases are explored to provide relevant examples of the diversity of shame presentations. Recommendations are made for the treatment of chronic shame experiences.
