AbstractRe‐examination of the hypothesis that firstborns are overrepresented concerning premarital sexual activity was conducted with a sample of young, poor, black unwed and married first‐conceptors. Contrary to confirming results obtained in earlier studies wherein all—or virtually all—respondents were white, the present study with black females did not support the hypothesis. U.S. black/white cultural differences were considered to account for the disparity of results found between this and earlier efforts.
