Genetic factors have been recognized in virtually all forms of endocrine dysfunction. Recent advances in the fields of endocrinology and genetics have led to the delineation of specific pathogenetic mechanisms in many of these disorders and provided further insight into many common endocrine disorders for which the genetics are still unresolved (e.g., diabetes mellitus).
